Running at night

i run alot at night too, i do most of mine on a golf course if you have any near you

He said the roads have thin shoulders. I've seen him and his shoulders are actually enormous.

Do you even run on golf courses in the winter?

Well here in Alabama I can drive two miles out of town and with my lil headlight i can run on dirt roads with very little traffic....are there dirt roads or country roads in your area that you can run on, if so do it.

well...I'm a girl, so I don't feel that safe running at night in the dark by myself...Therefore, I usually run on the treadmill, if it's dark outside-boring but safe...

I am in the same boat - there are no sidewalks or shoulders where I live and streetlights are few and far between.

I use one of those LED headlamps and it illuminates the street pretty well in front of me. I also wear one of those detachable red strobe lights on my back collar. I feel like I am pretty visible to traffic.

I mapped out a run that has a lot of dead end streets and cul de sacs. It is a painfully boring run, but the traffic is really limited.

I think running at night is fine - be visible, run defensively and obviously leave the ipod at home.

Find a road with little traffic, run on it. Sidewalks perhaps?

If country roads with little light, I would stay away even with a reflective vest. Those drivers are driving fast and not paying attention.

Running in suburban area with little traffic can be very enjoyable at night. I am talking about places with a lot of houses, lawns, sidewalks,etc... not the rural hoods.

The solution is clear:

Light yourself up like Christmas tree.

Get a reflective vest, put blinking lights on it. Wear a headlamp. Wear reflective bands on your wrists. Make sure the cars can see you from half a mile away. You'll be fine.

yo cassius clay it's not a cause ,it's a Right.

Play it safe and boring...find a safe road or parking lot and get your desired time and effort in...if you need a speed workout, find some hills to do the same...you may have to do a lot of back and forth running...

I run at night about half of the time (beginning at 10ish therefore finishing around 11). I've never felt uncomfortable and I live about a mile from Baltimore City. I stay within the neighborhood although my longer loop takes me out of the neighborhood about a mile away. While I don't mind running at night I do avoid busy streets. Since you run at night, you have the advantage of headlights so it is easier to dodge cars. If you plan on running at 7, I would avoid those streets, but if run later, like 9, you could probably just bolt to the other side of the street for a few seconds when a car is coming.

Running at night on a rural road in Alabama? Not me! Those country boys don't like runners.

I run a lot at night. but I hate it. I have no sense of my speed or pace.

Break down and buy a reflective vest. I imagine you work in an area that is out of the sticks so why not run right after work where there is light/cars/people etc. If you are forced to run in the road, run against traffic (some people are just plain stupid). Log some good miles on the weekends when the lighting is good. Make sacrifices my friend or buy a treadmill and become jogger.
