Sub Four on You Tube

This was on a high school track near Buffalo, NY. It's what happens when runners that have never trained up to their true potential get in a solid block (1-2 yrs) of training. Kind of like when Quenton first broke 4 - wasn't "in front of a screaming crowd" like he thought. Look for big things this indoor season... Maybe then his identity will be revealed.

You must of been the really pumped up guy that ran up to the runner that broke the barrier and congratulated him on the amazing performance...wait, nobody did that.

Also, not all tracks are 400 meters. We have a nice cinder track 2 towns over that is 368 meters long. I could break 4 in a 1,472 meter run (4:21 mile)

OK first off why would they be filming like arandom track mile?

Second no one congratulates him on breaking 4 mins? I mean if I even saw anyone break 4 like that I'd go nuts

theres a blind spot because the person filming is sitting on a football field goal post. he can't spin all the way around while sitting up there so he goes as far as he can and then goes back the other way to pick it up again.

Nobody freaked out because it was so expected. Sure, we all congratulated him afterwards, but they didn't get that on film. If you saw the workouts he had been doing before then, you would have expected it, too. I know it sounds weird, but sub-4 at that point was almost an afterthought. Yes, it's true that it was a big mental boost for him to get under the barrier, but he has his sights set on bigger things. The track was definitely 440y, I don't see why any school would have a track built that wasn't either 440y or 400M. Just wait, you'll see indoors...

Are you trying to make this grainy film an urban legend?

To me, it just doesn't physically look like they are running that fast. I've seen plenty of people run a 60 second quarter and the mechanics and stride length are different.

Why would anyone film from the goal post?

Someday I believe there will be an amateur sub 4 minute mile on YOUTUBE.

The problem is that the first video is so poorly lite. It looks like a grainly home movie from the early 60s.

The guy timing says casually at the finish line 3:59 and then 4:03. "You ran a 3:59 on a afternoon workout. Good job - whatever - lets now go to Burgerking". I like that dramatic slide into the finish line.

you don't have to see why...the fact is, there are plenty of tracks that aren't 440y or 400m. the whole thing is is total bs. sub 4 isn't an afterthought for anyone the first time there. and all this "if you only knew" hahaha. give me a break. great prank though, but sorry, sometimes seeing isn't believing. and don't worry, we'll all be waiting for indoors. ..

Why doesn't somebody just time the race from the video. The timing is not that off in this video. Then again they could of played around with the video later in a program like Premiere or Flash video.

These guys are probably laughing at the 4 star rating they got on YOUTUBE. I don't know if they are elite milers, but they are certainly good con men. I just love the two coaches (timers) casually standing in the background after a 4 minute mile has been run at a local high school track.
