i can't believe how hicham utterly destroys this doped up world class field.
perhaps one of the best races of all time.
in a recent press release, hicham cites this race as the best race of his life. i can see why. he was flying.

incredible race.
Sweet! I've been trying to find this race ever since that article.
In English, but lower video quality.
How fast was the last 800m?
That was sick!
Amazing race being run at near world record pace (only Morceli and El Guerrouj had ever run faster). Despite the fast time Ngeny managed to keep fairly close to the Moroccan. A great atmosphere as well with the race in Spain and the Spainiards running third, fourth and fifth. A lot of excitement from the crowd when Estevez makes his bid at the bell. Hicham at his very best.

WRONG! Lagat has the second fastest time ever.
I didn't even realize how fast that was when I watched it eight years ago
last 800?
probably similar to the first 800
400m - 54.8
800m - 1:52.8 (57.2)
1000m - 2:20.2 (28)
1100m - 2:33.7
1200m - 2:46.7
1500m - 3:27.65 (53.7)
last 800m - 1:50.3 (56.6, 53.7)
timed this myself so accurate to about 0.50

you realize how stupid you just made yourself sound? another example of the ignorance of the smartass know it alls on this board. Bernard Lagat did not run his 3:26 until 2001, which was obviously 3 years after this race. at the time only el g. and morceli had run faster.
That was simply amazing. 3:27 in a WC final, and he looked so smooth. Just wow.

yeah, I was gonna say, "who needs rabbits to run a fast time?", then I watched the race more carefully and saw that there was a rabbit:
11 974 Kaouch Adil MAR 3:47.05
That definitely helped the fast overall time.
Interesting to compare with what happened a year later:

He was at least a second a lap slow throughout.
Kaouch totally wimped out on the second lap in Sydney. If he had followed up the first lap with a decent second lap, El G would've had a great chance. Or, if El G had simply taken off with 700 to go, he would've had a great chance. But, he didn't, and he lost.
el G: 2 olympic goldsngeny: 1I think it worked out for him

Thanks Force. There is a significant difference between 'had' and 'have'.
