I've been thinking about using the following schedule for the winter/spring. It's based on Joe Rubio's middle distance guide but also a 9 day rotation that I've heard the Hanson's group uses. I'm wondering how this would be for a 1500 runner.
Day 1 - Hard workout w/ morning double
Day 2 - Longer high end aerobic run (controlled)
Day 3 - Short recovery run
Repeat
There would be 3 rotating hard workouts - a race specific workout(1500 pace), a speed workout (400 or 800 pace), and a strength workout (5k, 10k, or tempo pace). The longer high end aerobic runs would alternate between a 90 minute long run and a 70 minute medium-long run. The recovery runs would be short and very easy - like a 5 mile jog.
In a 9 week block, that would equal 11 long runs, 11 medium-long runs, 20 recovery runs, and 21 hard workouts.
Thoughts?
