Has anyone ever used the daniels 24 week 1500m training plan straight out of the book without a whole lot of change. How did it work for you and how did you progress.

Dr. Daniels is more a marathon coach (although he helped some like Jim Ryun with altitude training) and many coaches have found his shorter distance plans (below 5K) don't have enough intensity in them. So, if they use a Daniels plan, it is normally supplemented with interval/speed sessions. If you want a canned system that works for "normal" people, see "Winning Running" by Peter Coe or Bannister's book, "The Four Minute Mile."
If you do a search, there's an old thread with a link to Vin's system, and also an old low mileage thread with a lot of good stuff from Jim Spivey.

I agree with the above statement for the most part. I don't think that the volume of speedwork is the problem, rather the intensity. The paces set for the repetition workouts seem a little too easy. A miler, for instance, would almost never run faster than mile race pace.
I use most of the principles of his training with my athletes, but have never stuck to one of his schedules 100%.
We use a lot of the workouts and the general lineup of training phases, but, like the other coaches, we felt like we needed another level of intensity in there for milers and 800m runners. You ever notice how many good hs 800 runners and milers run a lot of open 4/4x4 Tuesday meets? There's a reason. So we do some workouts with an SF (SuperFast) intensity in there for 400m race pace. We don't do a ton of it, and we do spend a lot of time at F-Pace, but we do need that extra boost of anaerobic intensity.
and have you had alot of success using daniels then subbing tuesdays as a super fast pace?
