I'm building a base for indoors right now but have started doing some workouts since I'll be racing my first week back after semester break. I'll be focusing on the mile and 800/1000 this indoor season. Anyway, I haven't done anything faster than about 5k pace in the last 2 months, and before that I had only done strides. I need to work on getting a little speed back over break, but I don't want to peak too early.
Assuming I'm intend to peak in late February, how do I work a little on speed now without falling apart by late January? Would adding on something like 4 x 200 at 800m pace after a tempo run be okay?
