Ted Corbitt passed away this morning in a Houston hospital surrounded by friends and family.
The fraternity of road course measurers lost their father, their inspiration, and guiding light today.
May his light live on in all that strive to do the right thing with dignity and grace.

I'm sorry to hear about this, especially in the light of the recent thread with all of the fond rememberences of Ted and his monumental contributions to our sport. My best wishes and condolences to his family.

I'm overwhelmed w/thoughts & memories because Ted lived such a long, full life. Few have made as many small & large contributions to the sport than the NY Pioneer Club man. This is a sad day and my thoughts go out to his family. We can gain inspiration from his lengthy endurance career and hope to improve on work he initiated many years ago. RIP Mr Corbitt!

A very sad day for all. What a life he lived....a true running pioneer who just did what he loved doing, and made us all the richer for it. RIP, Ted. -
Ohhhh...May he RIP.

Damn if there is one dude I thought would live forever Ted was the guy.
RIP. I'll put in a few miles in his honor tonight. -
As part of his ultra training, he used to circumambulate Manhattan, sometimes doing two laps.
I hope NYRR or Pioneer organizes one of these in his honor. -
Heartfelt condolences to the Corbitt family...will never forget his inspiring and gentle spirit.

Ted was a remarkable man. I had the pleasure of meeting with him a while back. He was a real gentleman.

He was one of a kind. I raced and trained with him in the early 1960s in NYC. Ted was a true gentle-man. I'm so sorry.

One of the pioneers of our sport who will be sadly missed.
RIP Ted. May you have many runs in Heaven. -
Dave, when I saw the subject line I knew what the message was going to be, and my heart dropped. The rest of my day will be sad indeed. I think I should go run a few miles, then measure a course in his honor. It's cold, but not THAT cold - not cold enough to have stopped Ted.
RIP to one of the world's great gentlemen. -
My condolences to his family. He is a real Pioneer of the sport and a true class act.

I've known Ted for a very long time. We sat in the library at the Road Runners Club and taped hours of conversation. I treasure those tapes even more now. The man was so special. After reading his book, which should be published again, he was my true inspiration. My sincere condolences to Gary and the Corbitt family. I will miss this remarkable man.

I'm not a runner anymore but I'll walk a couple of miles tonight in honor of Ted Corbitt, such a great inspirational man. The thing I got most from Ted was that in running, there are unlimited possibilities. May the concrete in heaven be soft as a maiden's bosom.

A true legend. May you RIP.

Ted was elegant, dignified, hardworking, generous and so humble. I always thought he'd make it to 100. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
