I'm a distance runner, and I ran a weak 54 400 relay split back in the day, but I am sure a cop would never catch me. But someone who runs a 44.something should be able to handle a bunch of fat guys with mustaches right?

some cops are fast look at former los angeles police officer david mack 143 for the 800 still 3rd on the all time usa list. i am pretty sure lasse viren was a cop, a lot of the kenyan runners are police, xman is great for about 45 seconds but many people can probably catch him if they chased him for 3-5 minutes.
Well assuming X-man wasn't running from Lasse Viren, or all the other cops in the world with his running ability, I think it is fair to wonder how X-man got caught (other than the fact he was totally trashed).
