I say the acoustic Hell Freezes Over version is superior.

original...altho the hell freezes over one has a nice mature feel to it.
The Gipsy Kings version, obviously.
the silent one
Not a big Eagles fan, but nice guitar by Don Felder on that song. Still pretty harsh that they kicked him out
Original I would have to say but I do enjoy the Bob Marley version.
not a huge Eagles fan myself. But when I saw the live acoustic version of Hotel California I was quite pleased.
The live acoustic version is by far better.
Live acoustic version is a much better version. The electric solo is a much better solo.
original with those whipsnap guitar fills.
original is always better.
Agreed. Or whichever one is playing when I have easy access to the mute button.

both suck ass.
I was once told that "Hotel California" is a satanic song...that it's about hell?
Which is WORSE?? That whole unplugged fad in the '90s was the epitome of annoying.
I used to prefer the acoustic, but now I prefer the original. The guitar solo and those snappy fills that have already been mentioned are too good to pass up.
You can check out any time you want
but you can never leave
there's an a cappella version somewhere which is phenomenal...
it's a metaphor for hollywood and the music industry
In the late 60s, Hollywood though it cool to embrace the teachings of Anton LeVay who wrote the "Satanic Bible" and refered to the old mission as "Hotel California." That's why you hear the lines "So I called out to my captain, please bring me my wine/ We haven't had that spirit hear since 1969.
1969 the year the "Church of Satan" was established. Since the church building was formerly a mission the "spirit or wine" mentioned was a Godly spirit and was no longer.
In fact if you look inside the album cover jacket you can see my messenger Anton LeVay inside the "Hotel California".
