I am sure that my coach prefers high intensity low volume
i.e. 2x1600 with 6-7min rest
2x1200 with 5min rest
2x1000 with 4-5min rest
These are all seperate workouts, but they are down quite frequently. Today we did 2x1600, and tomorrow we will be doing 2x1200.
These are at high intensity because they are very close to race pace.
Let me explain. Our coach told us to go through the 800 today at our mile GOAL race pace and then just try to maintain. Of course you won't, but try to maintain good form and stay srong.
Furthermore, these 1ks are pretty much close to mile race and not 3k pace(VO2max).
Low intensity I would consider 6x800 at 3kpace with 2min rest. Yes, the intensity is high, but not super high like close to mile race pace.
Which of the two scenarios is better?
