There was always an implied Turkey Trot exception to the rule.
Look at the splits; 15:55 at the 5k for a 32:50 overall? Clearly there was a 60 second walk break between those two 5ks.
Sometimes random people will enter races under false names. You'll see Pre in the results running a 20+ minute 5K in many local races. I'm going to assume that this is what happened here just so that the beliefes that shape the core of my being aren't destroyed by this.
Teg did run, it was for a good cause, read and you will see why. http://www.uwbadgers.com/sport_news/gs/headlines/story.html?sportid=200&storyid=12242
So, did Teg let his coach win then? I'm guessing yes
That's good - "upset of monumental proportions". With Schumacher's nasty kick, maybe he could have brought home gold from Osaka!
And Jerry is definately a good man adn I am sure his guys grow into good men under his direction at UW and yes, they probably let him win. But sub 30 below it is hard to kick without pulling something.
Clearly the course was short. Teg would have never even considered racing in a footrace equal to the distance of 10,000m.
When Teg was 100 meters away from the finish line he stopped and said, "shit, I a'int runnin no 10k" and proceeded to walk to the finish line.
For those of us who aren't American and don't know much about Teg - what's the deal with the "Teg doesn't run 10k" joke?

You know how the Eskimos have 100+ different words for snow? There are over 100 different ways for LR posters to say that "Matthew Tegenkamp does not run the 10k".
he clearly jogged the 10k- he didn't run it, so the truth is still intact
But where the heck did it start? I just saw people start to say it and I still have no idea why.
somebody said something about somebody beating Teg in 10k...whether it was a typo or what I don't remember...within about a minute, 3 people told that person that any thought that they had ever had in their life must be incorreect, because Teg doesn't even run the 10k....
it just kind of snowballed from there....
and I quote:
"Teg Song, by onus march
see him coming in the distance:
locomotive on the track.
can't mistake those facial features
though you've only seen his back.
he's a tall one and a hard one
and a rocket-crotch they say.
but you know him by his distance:
he don't run no damn 10K.
Chorus:
Hall can have the f***ing mary,
Teg don't run no damn 10k."
hmm...looks like the original thread got deleted. some things are too ridiculous even for letsrun, apparently (but not infant cannibalism!).
Ryan Hall is clearly superior to Teg.

A year an a half ago when he was really knocking down his races a bunch of LR guys here wanted him to run a 10,000. That did not fit his objectives at the time and said that he would not do it for a while. Also note that Teg did run some 10ks in XC.
Also, Teg is a very big guy (as is Solinsky), beyond the normal 10,000 runner size. As a related note, if you go back to his Footlocker races you will see that he was WAY shorter than Dobson, who is tall, but I think is now shorter than Teg. Teg must have grown 6 inches or more in college -- no wonder he had some injury/strength problems (he faded at the very end of some key races).

That's what I thought at first, but then I remembered that the 10k doesn't get runned by Teg.
