Is anybody here running JC on Sunday (or has in the past)? I ran the course a couple days ago and it seemed pretty windy as most of it is in Liberty State Park by the waterfront. Is wind a real problem during the race and does the surface (lots of sidewalk, some cobblestone) give more pounding on your legs than other similar courses? Anybody know if any elite runners are doing it?
The course can be windy and I don't think it's fast. As for elite, I heard Mike Mykytok will be there. There's not enough prize $$ for the real open elites to show.
Well the purse is $7500 this year so I'd expect some Kenyans, at least the local ones, to show up.
Are you sure that's not the USATF only purse? There's the USATF-NJ Champs and the USATF Eastern Region team race, both which have prize $$. Do you know what the open prize money is?
Usually abt $250 for the win. No more than $400. That $7500 pie gets slnced ina lot of pieces.

Traditionally, "legit" USATF-NJ members are eligible for the coin -- whether they are American or not. That could include Stephen Ondieki, among others. But day-of signups probably not.

The prize money goes as follows (men and women):
Overall - $100/75/50 (3 deep)
USA East Region - 300/250/200/150/125/100/75/60/50/35 (10 deep)
USATF-NJ - 250/200/150/100/75/50/25 (7 deep)
USATF-NJ Masters - 100/75/50/45/40/35/30 (7 deep)
So if Mike Mykytok or Jackson Kipngok wins, he could theoretically grab 750 dollars.
Aww, where was Mykytok today? No Kenyans at the race either, so it was freaking slow (1:11 and change). Some guy from NY won ahead of the Frieders and Fouzi Aloui. Very nice weather except of course for the wind.
That was weak competition. The guy in second won $575 between Overall/NJ/Eastern Region prize money. I am really surprised about the lack of competition. Maybe everybody's injured... like me.
Doug, you know the score ...Of the recent high-profile Jersey League guys ... Mykytok, Ondieki, and the Ringwood and E. Brunswick Training Camps Guys ???? but also DeBenedictis injured, Aloui back but after being injured almost a year, Grote doing tri's, Meloro commuting to-from Connecticut, Martins with a new baby...
That's my question: Where was Myktyok, Ondiecki, and the other Kenyans? What about Gene Mitchell, Brian Harris? Strange. I guess Elliott can buy some more cool looking sunglasses with the cash he earned. ;-)
I'm also shocked that there aren't more post-collegiate types who can run 5:25 pace for 13 miles. That ain't that difficult. But that's a whole 'nother thread.
