First her fibula snapped, then her tibia. And she still finished.

That is crazy. I live in Ohio and I hadn't heard that story. She's got guts.

Holy crap. That girl's got brass ones.
FW, it's all over the track/cc forum of JJ Huddle
She exemplifies the spirit that many kids who come from rural settings have. Not to say that anyone from an urban setting couldn't be just as tough, but I see it more in the kids from the country.
Her coach is awesome as well!!
obviously this girl is a tough one, but lets be honest. she was probably in some kind of shock, and didn't realize what happened. I saw someone break their arm in half (between the wrist and elbow), and she just laid there silently. it's not because she was tough and calm, but because her body knew it was f'ed up and didn't need to feel the pain right then.
i don't mean to belittle how well this cc runner handled herself, but it's not like she was in agony and still thinking clearly through the fog of pain. i'm sure even she would tell us that.
Yeah great coach. Lets the kid run on a stress fracture until her leg breaks. Her running career is probably over.

Some of this is true, but you do know that it's broken. She knew it was broken, whether it hurt or not. She comments on knowing it was broken as soon as it happened. Watch the video, though, and she still gets up after crawling across the line. Not many people are willing to stand up on a broken leg.
Regardless of her "pre-existing" injury, to finish a race with a broken leg shows incredible heart. She could've collapsed where she was, but she chose to crawl the last 50 feet for help. Besides, it was her last H.S. race. Carpe Diem, and Good on her!!

The article makes no mention of the coach having any knowledge that she had a stess fracture, only that her leg was "sore" so they limited her training.
Pretty confident from the article that no bone scan was done prior to this happening.
But thanks for keeping up the fine LetsRun tradition of tearing down the efforts of others!
This girl deserves some mad props.
at what point is that considered stupidity?
Did you notice how many of those girls were keeling over at the line? The finish line sniper must have taken a day off.
she has bigger balls than i, but that ain't sayin' much.
She probably wouldn't have broken the fibula...
Having personally known her coach for many, many years I can tell you that there is no way she would knowingly let someone race on a stress fracture. Just like the 400 runner who broke a leg at the Big XII meet last year, you can't predict that such a thing would happen.
You shouldn't speak on things of which you have no knowledge.
I think it's pretty much right there at stupidity.

couldnt she have hopped on one leg after her tibia broke?
That girl is TOUGH. My shin once folded into right angle at the middle, a compound fracture of the tibia/fibula. I am uncomfortable picturing the instant it happened. There's no way I could've moved myself 10 feet for $10 million right after that injury. She deserves mention on the front page.
