Alright, maybe I have just been ignorant or perhaps I am actually right, but I ran track and XC for 8 years, all through high school and college. I'm at a new school now doing graduate work, and I have been running a lot on the track (mostly because I am in the middle of a big city and its either the track or stop at every intersection).
Anyway, at least a few times when I have been running, one of the track coaches (I think) has come up to me and told me if I want to run on the track I have to run on the outside lanes (5-8). Now, I could understand if there was practice going on, but this is early evening when it is just regular joggers on the track, so it is not like I am impeding any athletes doing their workouts. The track coach goes up to everyone and pretty much forces all runners to run on the outside lanes (and walkers too), so there is no one in lanes 1-4.
I think this is absolutely ridiculous, and it doesn't make sense to me why everyone should be forced to run in lanes 5-8 when no one is in lanes 1-3. Anyone have any comments on this, or have experienced it before? What gives? Is this guy just trying to be a dickhead?
