All of these libertarian arguments are nice on the surface, but keep in mind that if you really believe them you MUST be willing to let poor and sick people die on the streets and essentially say, "f*** you, you poor piece of shit" as they die slowly on your doorstep.
I can't do that. And I would hazard a guess that most of you have more of a heart than that. And if you do, then you'd be a fool not see the benefit to everyone to provide preventive and basic care to all. It's much cheaper to prevent and treat early than to pay for expensive ex post facto care.
(And I won't even start on how capitalism will never provide coverage to those who have preexisting conditions [yes, even your guilt-free defenseless child with Type 1 diabetes or leukemia]; capitalism works great to provide cheap care for healthy people, but not everyone is healthy... and what insurance company in it's right mind will provide care to sick people at any reasonable rate? None of them, they let the government (i.e., your tax money) cover the care at that point.)
You're either willing to let poor and sick people die, a financial fool or a person who realizes that a market economy will never solve the health care crisis.
