Who in the heck is best suited for the 5K? 3:50 milers?

Wow people are finally starting to catch on.
Did you also know that 50 second 400m runners really could be a lot better at the mile than at the 400 (most of the time).
And that young people CAN run good marathons....
It is becoming clear...FINALLY
In America, you run sub 4 and they say "wow what a great miler"...in Kenya you run sub 4 and they say "theres our next 10k guy".
what do they say in mother russia?

they give you a sex change and say there's our next women's 800m champ
in mother russia, marathon runs you
If a 4:00 miler like Ryan can run 2:08, then a 3:46 miler like Webb can run 2:04. Think about that one.
Yes, Webb can run 2:04, but he'd really need to bulk up in order to do so. At the moment, he's just too small to run well at the marathon.

Ryan runs a 4:00 mile but his longer races trump that par mile time. He is so efficient it makes sense for him to step up to longer stuff.
What is wrong with you? Why would Webb want to be a "maybe" 2:04 guy? He runs 3:46 and 3:30. No need to step up! He is already ranked in the top of the world. Just because you don't medal at world's or olympics doesn't mean you need to run away from your current race and move up. Should Wariner step up to the 800m because you like that race more? Ya he could maybe run a 1:41, but right now he is the 3rd best 400m runner the world has ever seen!
Webb is young and learning still. If he pb's and runs 3:44 and 3:27 - will you be pissed? Shit the guy is amazing at the mile with 1:43 speed. If I look at his body type he seems to be made for middle distances.
The only race he should consider moving up to is the 5km. But I find it hard to believe with his body type he is better suited for the marathon. Why didn't El G just step up and run the marathon? Running a fast mile doesn't mean you are meant for longer races.
I'm going to be the first to post it because I know someone else will....
Jeremy Wariner should run the 800

Agreed. Once he takes down the 400m WR in Beijing

Surely you aren't that dense. The guy was trying to get you all to see how stupid this whole thread is.
Perhaps not Wariner, but given the astounding number of great 400m runners the US produces, I don't see why more of the guys who aren't in the very top tier (the top 5 in the US, which also equates to top 10 in the world) more up to the 800 where the US is nowhere near as strong. This may even force some of the 800 guys to move up to the 1500 if they get beat by the runners moving up and then the 1500 guys to move to the 5k etc.
Well, what's better, a 4:00 mile or a 2:08 marathon?
I mean sure, he's good at the mile, but that's just becasue he's a good runner overall. I mean, it's all relative. Relative to the level he's at, he's alot better at the marathon.

me too! i never lol on this board...
I prefer in mother russia marathon runs you
I actually thought the same thing when I read what do they say in mother russia
Right, because there have been so many successful 400/800 guys at the world class level. Can I have some of your pills? They seem to work better than mine at creating such an optimistic outlook.
