In the Olympic trials you saw lots of running wearing arm sleeve things. Do those have a technical name and where can you get them?

They are called arm warmers and they are borrowed from the cycling world. Any bike shop will have them... there are also leg warmers too but they would look pretty stupid wearing them running ... check some out at Pearl Izumi.
And the arm warmers don't look stupid? Of course Hall's amazing run trumps lame fashion commentary, but honestly, does anyone think the arm things were a good look?
Have they been demonstrated to enhance performance in some way or are they just for comfort? If they do somehow help performance, then looks be damned. Why not go with the legs too?

I noticed that my local running shop is carrying them now.
Uhhhh Tim the idea behind the arm warmers is not for fashion but for a much more functional. Start out in them, then peel them off after a couple 4:40 surges. Much easier than ripping off your sleves under your singlet. It also helps if you are 5'9" 132lbs and a body fat percentage of -2%. Now in your case, just guessing here, 6'1" 235 lbs and body fat % in the upper 20's, no chance of you getting hot after throwing in a few 9 minute miles to shake off those pesky penguins, I'd elect to just wear your Nike fleece.

Hmm....short running shorts the in things? How about tights for men? Don't know about you but I don't care too much what people think of me, the stuff can be functional. The short shorts for me I prefer, they are more comfortable and when racing, can usually keep your body SLIGHTLY cooler, and well tights in the winter can hug your body and if it's windy your not having that extra resistance....
So yea, why not, and before anyone wants to make a gay comment from this, why do football players wear such tight pants? To keep the pads in and not get caught as easily when maneuvering. Gotta love functionality, usually trumps fashion....look at high heels....luckily when you're getting paid to run so fast you go with what YOU think works, and that includes breathe right nasal strips for some...
I know this has been said before but I have used cut off tube socks many times for this same purpose and they work great at a fraction of the cost.
So how many threads have been made on this now? Triple digits yet?
My grandma can crochet you a pair. Color choices are sky blue, sunflower yellow and lilac. She had great success in the 80's with her leg warmers.
