I have what I believe is retrocalcaneal bursitis. I don't really think it's achilles tendonitis, because the achilles tendon isn't really bothering me, except for possibly the bottom part where it inserts. A lot of people on other threads advocated cutting out the heel counter, but I'm not exactly sure what they mean by that? Should I just cut out the top cushioned part (above the hard plastic part), or should I also cut out the hard plastic part? Also, what's the best way to go about doing this? By the way, I wear Asics 2100 series.
It doesn't really hurt to the point where I can't run on it, but I have a bump on the back of my heel (inflamed bursa?) & feel a mild amount of pain (especially at beginning of run). I'm going to take about 3-4 days off (while icing, night splint, etc.), but I would like to see if removing the heel counter helps at all. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!!!
