Much like 10 years ago, things have changed. Nike at one time owned the market and now everyone is involved. Nike spends all the money for 10 different color FREE's and SHOX (those are the Abdi's and Meb's) while the workhorses are the real performers.
Does anyone really care though? I'd say Nike won the marketing war at the Trials and NYC Marathon in general with their free yellow Livestrong shirts...
Not sure about the NYC marathon, but at the trials Hansons had everyone else out-paraphenalia-ized. BTW, thanks for the free shirt Hansons.
