I know there are some Ivy Leaguers out there- What do you think of Daniel Ireland, Yale's relatively new coach, and the direction he is taking the team. Could they have a good squad in a couple years?

Danny Ireland has done a fantastic job in the few years that hes been coaching at Yale. the work that hes done with the recruiting and the O'Neil twins is something else. they have one of the 10 best womens team in the country...they are still a relatilivly young team even with the leadership and experience of them. if i remember correctly both are Juniors.. if they are both Juniors wait til next year because they have some good freshman on there squad... 2003 will be the best Yale's womens team in a long time
oops my mistake i looked and the O'Neil twins are seniors
Sorry, I should have specified- The question was meant to be geared more towards the men's team.
we will see how far they have come at paul short. some real good teams in the race including princeton, william and mary and penn state/
Yale has been selling themselves as up and coming for the last five years. i have not really seen any improvement at all. They were still at the bottom of the Heps last year. Yale is a graveyard for men distance runners. They are not getting better, just tlaking more.
I graduated from Yale in 2000 (just after Dan's 1st spring with the Yale squad). Just looking at the recruiting he's done, Yale's program will improve. He's bringing in guys that run under 4:20, and under 9:30. Are these the best in the country? Obviously not. But he brings in about 4 or 5 of those type of runners, and help them become better runners. My class was the last one that Bartold had all 4 years, and my class was the biggest one (4 recruits) we had. After than, the class sizes went 2, 2, and 1 during Bartold last years. You can't build a program with bringing those numbers of recruited guys. Dan has changed that trend, and I see Yale definitely moving up in the ranks. Give him time.
I agree. 3-5 classes of 4 or more developemental level
runners is essential, however, a proven FL finalist could
elevate Yale to the upper half sooner.
It's been 10 years since Gibson, Wemple,Michel, Meinhardt
and waiting for Palladino 2nd place Heps finish.
Yale ran strong up front but 4-5 have to be closer by Heps for a top half finish (re: Paul Short)
Yale didn't run all of their top guys at Paul Short. If you look at the results from Georgetown, you will see 4 or 5 guys missing from their top 8.
they did not run well up front... only their frist kid. their number two kid was in the 30's. they were missing several guys, but their top 3 were definitely there. thier top three amassed 82 points... compare to william and mary (16), columbia(20) , princeton (34), american (60), penn (55), and manhattan (82). up and coming is still a stretch.
