is it a bad idea to get a deep tissue massage the week before a final race of the year (5k). Race is on Friday and massage appointments are on Tuesday and Wednesday the week of the race. Should I get one or not?

You should be fine, just don't make it too deep or painful. It should be beneficial though.
Depends. Are you used to having them done or not? If so, and if they don't tend to leave you sore at all afterwards, then 2-3 days before should be fine. If you're not used to it or tend to get sore, go 4-5 days before and/or make sure the massage is not too deep.
i used to get one after marathons, when my legs were sore and beat up
Have you done the massage thing before? If not, I'd say that it's a little late in the season to be experimenting with new things. If you want to try it, do it next season before a less important meet (I'm assuming that this is some sort of championship as it is your last race).
I got a massage today on my extremely sore calves and ....holy freaking balls it was painful. I think you might feel better for the race, but make sure you're prepared for the actual massage, I know I wasn't.
