Whay would you pay for a 5K road race?

in a free market, people will pay $30.00

I think $30 is whay too much

Yeah, I'm surprised they can get away with it. I've found that some of the bigger races with corporate sponsors and prize money are actually cheaper. The small time races seem to be the most overpriced ones. Didn't used to be that way.

$30 is my personal breaking point for a non-marathon road race. Charge over $30...I'm not running it.

I won't pay more than $15 unless there is some good competition.

in London you can do this 5K race for nothing.

30 bucks and there better be t-shirts, water bottles, free food, and prize drawings after the race.

The going rate around here (northern NJ) is about $20, although some are $25, especially for race day registration.

Id rather pay $30 to a local 5k that spends its proceeds to a good local cause than a bunch of money to elite runners hardly anyone else cares about.

I have $30 for a good, competitive event.

Unless I am competing for my club, the maximum I will pay is $20 for a "day of race" signup.

The last 5K I raced in cost me $8 and was a cross country race with no awards, no T-shirt, no meaningless crap but they did have hotdogs after the race.

I find it extremely hard to go jump in any local 5K race because they all charge $25-$30 and put on crappy events all so you can pay for some piece of crap trophy and t-shirt covered with advertising that you don't want but the race director bought to make the winners feel good about themselves. I also don't care for the races that give nothing to the winner who runs a fast time but instead awards a round trip airline ticket to some fat woman that walked the race in a lightning fast 1 hour 25 minutes just because she was lucky to have her number drawn out of a box.

Instead of paying 30 bucks and running a 5k race on a terrible course, which I will probably win a piece of crap trophy and have some water and fruit at the finish, I just jump in my car and go somewhere nice to run, put in a good effort then spend the left over cash I saved on something that will do me some good.

I'll take a $5-$10 entry fee for a good course, no awards, no T-shirt, no post race crap any day.

I live an hour from Columbus but rarely go to the Columbus races. I will travel farther for better events.

i just found a winter race series in St. Louis that only charges $7 per race, or 45 for the 5 race series and a long sleeve technical t shirt. The series is actually 10 races, each time they have one longer race and one shorter such as a 12k and a 4k or so. I was pretty pumped when I found out about it and cant wait to do them this winter.

Most of the people at the races arent looking for the best competition just some motivation and a goal for their training and the after race party and goodies are their reward. Everyone on these boards talks about how people need to get off their ass and get in shape and when they do road races and marathons we make fun of them because they arent fast. I think that if they train for the goal of a race say maybe once a month $10-30 is cheaper then just going to the gym. Plus like i said above the post race stuff is a reward for their work

and yes Flagpole we know if you invest in a well-diversified portfolio or etf it will be worth over $300 in 30 years

I've just paid $40 ($35 US) for a 5K road race here in Australia, I better be getting some free shit afterwards.

The good thing about this race is that you have to have run sub 17 mins, no slow pokes!! yeah !!!
