Yes, but you need to be very careful that the motion you focus on is actually eccentric. You would need to know the specific repetitive motion that caused injury in your specific glute before you can isolate the reverse motion for that exact glute. If you aren't 100% confident you have isolated the correct things to do in reverse motions, then you risk further injury.

Mine seems to be caused by excessive hill and track running, which put too much strain on my right glute medius (the bad side),
I also have great muscular imbalances. I think my right hamstring is also pretty weak and strangely enough more flexible than the left, while my right glute is noticeably tighter than the left, which also gives me the snapping hip and sometimes some tingling feeling . Quadriceps and hip flexors are also tighter on the right side.
Planning to stretch out them and strengthen the hamstring and considering the eccentric thing for the glute.
