I had a nasty double case of plantar fascitis last fall and i tried everything to make it go away -- the Strasbourg sock, massage, the thing they use on pregnant women's bellies (the word escapes me at the the moment)-- short of cortizone shots.
Eventually I just stopped running and got custom orthotics for my high arches. Pain free finally, I've been running with the orthotics. But in my every day shoes the orthotics hurt. And even though I've kept my running to a minimum (focusing on biking this spring and summer), I swear the orthotics are giving me PF again in my right foot, they're so uncomfortable by the end of the day.
Well, I had read here recommendations for Birkenstocks for PF sufferers. So I got a closed toe pair with a bit of padding over their cork footbed. I've only had them for a couple days now, so I can't say whether they'll help. But they do seem to support my high arches.
Anyone have a similar experience and find Birkenstocks worked or didn't? If they did, why do you think that is? And how long did you have to wear them before you think you finally beat the devil that is PF?
