Is it beneficial to get a massage a few days before a marathon? I would think it would be, but want to check as I do not normally get massages.

I get one about 1 week before. Keep in mind that certain types of masage can temporarily cause minor muscle trauma, and you don't want that right before the big race.
If you abslolutely want one, stick with a Swedish Massage, light pressure. Don't do anything that would create muscle soreness. Drink lots of water afterwards.
The fact that you don't get massages regularly should make you very cautious. Be sure to tell the therapist this, and that you are about to run a marathon.
You may want to save that massage for after the marathon. That's when you will really need one.
I would strongly recommend AGAINST anything that you have not incorporated into your training routine. It would've been better to get a massage before a 20 miler a month ago to feel the effects on your running, than to do it now.
It depends on how your body is responding right now. If you have nagging injuries, muscle sorness, or tight muscles you could benefit from a massage about 4 days beforehand. I don't recommend a DEEP tissue massage, stick to a Swedish-type massage. You definitely want one after the race to reduce swelling and to rid your muscles of lactic acid/metablolic waste. Trust me...you will benefit.
An absolute Must
Four to five days out.
I get a 2 hour,yes 2 hour massage.
You will not be able to afford that from the "I went to University and did a degree"Types.
My Massuese is the Lady that the Physios send their "you will never run again" cases to.
The reason she gets results is simple. She is prepared to put in the TIME.
Try half an hour massage on each leg and judge for yourself.
