Anyone who ran in the St. Olaf Invitational September 15, were you attacked by some kind of biting bug around the 5k point? I was just running along, through the woods somewhere I believe just past 5k and I could feel something land on my calf. I went to brush it off and it bit me! It stung so bad that I had to drop out, and it soon swelled up big time and it continues to hurt!
After I made my way back to the finish area, I found out that one of my teammates had also been bitten, and he found the head of this bug still attached to his leg afterward! Then today I was talking to another teammate who didn't run the meet but was there taking splits etc. who said that he saw the leader/soon-winner Joshua Sawe stop entirely, bend down, and swat at his leg several times before taking off again, right around the 5k mark. So it seems that at the very least me, my teammate, and the ridiculously fast Kenyan who slaughtered the field were all attacked by some kind of biting bugs that hurt like a bitch. So my question is, did anyone else get bitten, and how are you doing now?
My teammate was alright the next day but mine got infected so I had to go on antibiotics and had to miss two days of running because of the swelling. I mean, I'm alright now (they won't have to amputate) but still, annoying as piss!
