Have you run in them on the roads and also done more than just races and hard runs in them? You should do a couple of test runs on roads (easy runs or pick ups). If the course is downhills (as mentioned above) you should find some good, long downhill stretches.
Personally, I train and race in cross country flats (Puma Cortlandt XC flats). I've done several half marathons and a full marathon in them with no problems. I don't know anything about the actual spike plate on the Mach's, but if they aren't too slick on the roads and you're comfortable in them (~on the roads), go for it.
