He ran 2:20 in a solo effort - he looked really strong when he passed me. (the marathon course overlaps the half marathon course - he was dodging and weaving through the masses when I saw him - the race usually doesn't have elite runners)
I finished the half and heard him giving an interview at the finish, apparently he ran 140 miles last week, 100 this week and stopped twice during the race to use the restrooms.
He deserves congrats as it was a solo effort the whole way.

Cox had to get into the trials to keep his powerbar sponsorship. Well, that and do 1000 calf raises per day. But whatever.
So I guess he decided to get his qualifier out of the way a little sooner than October 6 at St. George. Must be nice to just cruise to a 2:20 although the question is, did he get under 2:20 so he can have his own water bottle at the trials?

If he can run 2:19 on his own easily, he might well be top 10. He won by 12 minutes. He was 7th in 04.

I dont care what the bashers say but 2:19 winning by 12 minutes is a pretty great run even if he didnt stop twice. may not be enough to get on the team but it could set him up to be a top 10 guy.

If you look at the course profile it is challenging. For a guy with no completed marathons since 04 and a number of starts and stops the last 5+ years, there is no one who can question his talent or his ability to put in high mileage training. He, Meb, Dan Browne, McKeeman and Ryan Hall are a pretty good training group!!
I saw Hall, Browne, Cox and McKeeman running their mile repeats workout about 4 weeks ago. Browne and Cox were running step-for-step with Hall, with McKeeman off the back, um ... just a bit.

It is. I haven't run it personally, but I have served as "crew" for several friends/co-workers who have. If Cox can turn in a quality run like this one on the USAF marathon course, he may just find himself capturing some big scalps at the Olympic Trials.
multiple central park loops, though they skip the harlem hills and go down the second biggest set of hills. still most of the course is up and down. not a fast course.
Josh was dq'd for stopping to comb his hair and touch up his makeup 5 times.
