I\'m thinking of doing some sprint training and racing on the master\'s circuit.
Is that time a good beginner time showing some potential, or am I wasting my time with this?
I\'m 41 and I couldn\'t run 14 flat if my life depended on it. But, that\'s why I run distances.
The very fact that you are trying is test/reward enough. Just go to meet, have a good time, compare yourself to your peers, then decide future efforts afterwards. Go get \'em !

I'm 45, and did a 13.5 a couple times this year. My best ever is 12.8 from 20 years ago, so I haven't lost as much "sprint" percentage as middle/long distance.
Now, who cares what others think or run? Do you want to sprint at some meets? Then go ahead and prepare. I might do the same thing myself next year, and if some 50 year olds can run 12.5, so be it! :)
33.7 for 200 meters in clunky flats with very little warmup a month ago in a "fun" meet and NO preparation, at age 52. Last sprint I ran was a pick-up 100 that wasn't timed maybe a decade ago.
Surprised myself.
Maybe there's something to this sprinting business? To be honest it was FUN, something that's been lacking in my running since my last marathon and the subsequent injuries.
Have some of us been running the WRONG distances?
I was thinking about Merlene Ottey's 11.6 run at Osaka, at 47 (i think) years of age... And was wondering- are there any MALES who could do this over the age of 45? An amazing performance.
I used to train with a 60 year old sprinter by the name of Charles Bracado(sp?) who travelled internationally for master's competition...... he ran 11.9 in 2003
My time is 10.9 ht I am 41 years old. If you have a good Winter program 100m to 500m you can run 11 or 12 sec.
11.9 at 41? The AR is 11.7 set by the great Aaron Thigpen.

This isn't really specific for a 45 year old, but you may wish to check out the Senior Olympics web site to see what some of the top guys older than you are running - it is prety amazing. One guy in the 70-74 age group ran sub-14.
I had the opportunity to test some of the athletes at the 2005 games. One of the athletes, Dr. Don Cheek was in his mid-70's and could run a <30s 200m. I think he ran something like a 47.x 400m when he was in college (Seton Hall University) back in the day.
Just interesting stuff...
