does it take to convert a 2:05 800m to a 15:00 5K?

3.62 shit-tons
142 endurances.
I have no clue what kind of answer you're expecting with that question but those performances aren't anywhere close to being on par with each other
I ran faster than 2:05.
I ran way slower than 15:00.
So, obviously more than I had.
15:00 is in a completely different league than 2:05. That 800 will maybe make varsity on most high school teams, 15:00 will give you respectful finishes in many collegiate meets.
I only run the 5k indoors (10k outdoors and short 1500 tuneups), and my PR is 15:40. I ran the 800 in high school in 2:05, but I'm more distance oriented. I would say 2:05 is enough speed, since you don't need a ton to run a 15 flat 5k. But if you can't get any faster than that though, you're gonna need some SERIOUS lungs to run a 15 flat.
conversion please? wrote:

don't worry man i'm a 2:05 800 guy too, but so far i've run 15:28 and hope to bring that down to 15:00 in this next year
This is on one hand kind of a silly question. How do you measure endurance? (endurances... that's rich!)
A better question might be: what's better a 2:05 800 or a sub 15 5k? Personally, I think they're about equal! I've known plenty of people that have PR's in both around those two times. Hell, I can think of a number of sub-2:20 marathoners who couldn't break 2:05, no matter how hard they tried. The fact that more people (in HS...) have run 2:05 than have run 15 just points out that most people are under-trained for endurance.
They aren't even close to being equal.

Please don't confuse the innocents on this board. Even if you ran an entire 5k at 2:05 800 pace, your time would be around 15:19.
stop worrying about vo2 max, lactate threshold, and anaerobic endurance. no more fancy oakley sunglasses, nike watches that hold 50 splits, or nasal breathing strips. get all of that crap out of your head. it is only holding you back. DON'T THINK. RUN. that's all you have to do- RUN. RUN HARD when you feel good. run easy when you don't. STOP THINKING. train your tail off and RUN!!!!
In high school, there were at least fifty guys in my state who could run 2:05, probably more.
None of them could go sub 15, however. Neither could anyone else.
I think sub 15 is a little better.
I think there are very few 15:00 5k runners that would run slower than 2:05 if you threw them into an 800. And if you spend half a season training them for an 800, that "very few" becomes "zero".
There are a whole lot of 2:05 800m runners that could never run 15:00 for 5k, at least without years and years of hard training.
wow, exact same PR's/goals as me
In high school, many moons ago
9th grade 800m PR - 2:04
9th grade 5000m PR - 18:08
I was more of a mid distance guy though.
1:58 PR about an hour after running the 1500
15:18 PR in the 5000m although I was better at the shorter stuff.
My PR for 5km is 14:17, and running about 2:05 for the 800 is an all-out effort for me, IF I could do it, probably not.

Are you serious, your math skills are seriously lacking. 2:05 for 800 is 62.5 for each 400, which works out to 13:01.25. It's kinda occuring to me that this is probably a trolling attempt just looking for a response, but I figure I'll respond anyway.
The times aren't too close, but my last 800m race before breaking 15:00 was 2:02 mid and my PR was just 1:59, so just cause you ran around 2:05 doesn't mean it's impossible.
