Nike VIntage Shoes - Just for looks or for Running?

I have the waffle racers and I was told not to run in them, and I'm sure the reason is because our feet are used to todays type of shoe . And if you have ever looked at the bottom of the waffle racer the midsole cuts in really deep and actually looks hard to run on.

why on earth would you wanna run with that shoe?

I saw the Daybreak at a store and the sole would barely flex (not like the originals) plus they made them to look weathered!

i run in the waffle racers. they're great. as for not being flexible, it only took one run for them to "break in". now they're loosey goosey!

That's exactly like the originals. My favorite shoe ever, I should know.

I saw some at either Finish Line or Champs and they were $60 if anyone wants to know. They made them look old, but really it just looks like someone pissed on the shoelaces.

I still have my Lime Green with Black swoosh waffle racers in a box here in the garage. Circa 1981.

Some of these older shoes can sell for some big bucks. I recently saw some early 1980's nikes go for $150 on Ebay.

Guys ran like real live animals in those "vintage" shoes. I ran 100+ mpw in waffle trainers, roadrunners (the lime greenies), LDVs. Wore the Daybreaks when they came out, but the toe box was too tapered for me. Then they came out with the Internationalist, which was pretty much the daybreak but with a boxier toe and that was it for me. Best shoe ever, I could run all day in those suckers, then go party at the Union Bar on Central Avenue half the night.

I liked the first version of the Pegasus OK, but they have gone downhill since - the last pair I bought in 2003 sucked. The air thing stinks, EVA is a much better mid-sole material. Not sure why, it might give a better "feel for the road."

YES! Totally agree. Shoe company's keep coming up with these newer, lighter materials, but I think they're too soft and squishy. I want to feel firm and flat on my feet.... not as if I've got moon shoes on!

Those are Nike Vanquiers (sp) - promos with the low-heel. That color combination was never sold retail, only available to sponsored runners. Back in the day you could tell the studs from the snails by the color of their shoes.

I HATED those spikes because the spike plate is too long, making the forefoot too stiff. They changed the spike plate when they came out with the first version of the Zoom in about 1982, a huge improvement.

I did, big mistake. Crappy shoes. DON'T BUY THEM.

I dont think these are the Vanquiers but I could be wrong. I had a pair in the late 70's. THe Vanquiers sole was rubber over a thin midsole. These appear to have no midsold at all and just a rubber sole.

The Daybreaks. NO support at all. My PF acted up after one run. They were donated to a local charity.

I don't know... I'm tempted to try the waffle racer - old time's sake. It used to fit perfectly - same last as the elite and elite classic.

I'm quite certain those are called "Triumph's"I got a pair in 1979 but they were blue with a yellow swoosh, same bottom. Coe and Rono amoung others wore them. Back in those days they did make special versions/colors for the top guys.

I think you are correct about the bottom of the shoe! These shoes below look like a customized pair of Vanquires. Notice the rubber sole over the midsole.
