I am no bashing Lagat, I was glad to see an American win two golds, but I really don't think he will ever get the American record in the 5k or the 1500. While he just ran two great races, I think his wins were due more to experience and tactics, plus a great finishing kick, but I really don't think still has it in him to break either record. Thoughts?
I think Lagat has as much of a chance of getting the American record in the 1500 as Webb does of getting the American record in the mile.

My thoughts: he already has the 1500 AR.
I think Lagat, even at the age of whatever he'll be next year, can get the AR in the 5000m. He's ran 12:59, but that was in a tactical race. If he were to get into some fast Golden League 5k in good weather and all the fixings, I'm sure he could run low 12:58. He did run 7:32 indoors in March(?) of this year, which I think was the 2nd fastest time run indoors for 3k this year.

A keen observation. Bernard Lagat ran 3:29.30 in 2005... which does make him the US record holder in the 1500. As for the 5000m... who knows. He has come close but didn't even sniff the record this year. Stay tuned...
