Bernard Lagat 7:29
Tariku Bekele 7:30
Moses Kipsiro 7:31
Matt Tegenkamp 7:32
Craig Mottram 7:33
Jonas Cheruiyot 7:33
Jospeh Ebuya 7:34
Mo Farah 7:35
Thomas Longosiwa 7:35
Jesus Espana 7:37
Edwin Soi 7:40
Bernard Lagat 7:29
Tariku Bekele 7:30
Moses Kipsiro 7:31
Matt Tegenkamp 7:32
Craig Mottram 7:33
Jonas Cheruiyot 7:33
Jospeh Ebuya 7:34
Mo Farah 7:35
Thomas Longosiwa 7:35
Jesus Espana 7:37
Edwin Soi 7:40
I'd say that's REALLY fast, unless the weather there is cool already. But, I'd also put Teg in front of Kipsiro. We saw he had the better raw speed in the 5k finish (i know, Kipsiro got the medal...but Teg was catching fast).
my bad, i forgot to include cherkos:
Bernard Lagat 7:29
Tariku Bekele 7:30
Moses Kipsiro 7:31
Matt Tegenkamp 7:32
Craig Mottram 7:33
Jonas Cheruiyot 7:33
Jospeh Ebuya 7:34
Mo Farah 7:35
Feleke Cherkos 7:35
Thomas Longosiwa 7:35
Jesus Espana 7:37
Edwin Soi 7:40
Figure they'll go through 1k in 2:30ish, come through 5k in 5:05, then kick it home, needing 2:25 to run 7:30. So the k splits would like
2:30
2:35
2:25
I think that's pretty reasonable and managable, considering Lagat&Tow finished the 5k at WC's with a 2:23ish last k and that was after running 4k at 2:48 pace.
Another note: Soi hasn't run that fast this summer, maybe 13:10 for 5k- but nothing under 13. Cheruiyot, Ebuya, Longosiwa, Cherkos, and Kipsiro are all 7:31-7:35 runners, so it's hard to predict where they'll fall in this lineup. Granted some will be more rested than others, but they may not be as race savvy either, having not had the experience of running the trials and learning to race against the best.
No rabbits = slower than 2:30 for the first 1000m
well if there are no rabbits, then I say the race ends with a 1-2 American finish. tegenkamp and lagat have great finishing kicks. mottram needs rest, tariku is good but if tegenkamp is sitting on his shoulder, he's history. the above poster is right about tegenkamp was closing on kipsiro, so if tegenkamp plans his kick right, he probably can outkick kipsiro. i don't think cheruiyot, farah, ebuya, longosiwa, cherkos, soi, or any of the other runners have the kind of raw speed that teg does right now, and lagat has more, so i say it goes
1. Lagat
2. Teg
3. Tariku
4. Kipsiro
5. Mottram
If Mottram is 100%, I say he takes 2nd or 3rd.
zurich is listed with a high temperature of 58 and 5 to 10 mph winds are in the forecast
the big mzungu needs a well deserved rest. like get your tent and surfboard and don't leave the beach for 2 weeks kind of rest.
Mottram had 2 weeks rest before WC.
yeah, rest as in no running whatsoever because he injured himself.
yes the weather will be cool for the meet...
i'm here in zurich and it is pretty darn cold for the beginning of september
I have tickets to tonight so i'm excited... although I don't expect that anyone will be under 7:30 in an unpaced race
Mottram's not running.
Cherkose PB is 7:32 and Tariku is 7:29.
I know these numbers by heart.
Both are not in shape... Lagat should win this race unless he is tired from Osaka.
Interestingly.. just checked the start list and Degela Feleke is entered in the race. He is a 110 hurdler with a 15 second PR. Hopefully its a mistake.. but if not..Its going to be a SHOW
is that true? damnwhere did you see that
