wissman! nr for him. i think he'll be the one to beat in a few years.
45.57 was his previous best? Wow that's like a 1 second PR.

Um no...he went 45.57 in 2004. He went 45.12 twice in July, and 45.03 in August before the champs.
What is being left out is that he didnt race any 400's last year with the exception of one indoors i believe. He concentrated solely on his speed running a 20.38 pr and a 32.61 300 indoors. Pretty decent times for a guy who had only gone 45.57 2 years earlier. So he's really been trainng for 2 years to get to where he is, not really the major leap it seems from first glance from him 45.57. (by this i mean it was over 2 years of training not one season to the next)
he was a 200m runner, as mrr82 said, and he ran a swedish nr in the 400m in the first round at roughly 44.94, and then ran that great semifinal time of around 44.5 for a second swedish national record. he looked very good the last 50m.
speaking of which, wariner and taylor both shut it down early on the way to their 44.3/44.4 times. taylor certainly could have gone under 44, maybe 43.8 in that race, and wariner looked like he could have gone 43.5 or better.
