First the 18 year old Kenyan taunted Webb. With about 20 meters to go he turns to Webb, then turns back and puts out a number 1 finger. Webb was chilling and content on taking second, but the Kenyan really wanted to win the heat.
Then Sully just barely takes 6th place (the last automatic qualifier) with a last ditch sprint and as he's crossing the line turns to the 7th place guy and points at him. I didn't see any incident during the race that would make Sully do that, but I could have missed something. It's pretty unlike him to do something like that.
Yeah, Sully wouldn't taunt someone as he comes home in 6th place just as a ha, I beat you. He must have had some reason to point at that specific guy. I'm sure we'll find out the story soon enough.
I think it was pretty clear what happened. In the final stretch the guy who ended up 7th pushed sully way out and was giving him elbows down the homestretch

Yeah, Kiprop was doing a little too much celebrating for "winning" a heat. My God, though, he looks great.
you are all so lame to think this hard about shit. Bunch of wimpy suckas made the next round when a bunch of wimpy suckas didn't. You should go bang your out of shape wives and dream of beating webb in a duel meet.
"dual"
There's an interview with Sully on Flocast. He explains his taunt.
Here's a video of the heat:

It's pretty clear that the guy who finished 7th was throwing the elbows at Sully pretty bad on the home stretch. He's lucky Sully didn't take him out back after the race and pound some respect into him.
It looked like the winner looked back to make sure he'd win then held up his finger to the crowd or just in general. That's different than turning around and taunting a finger in someone's face mid-stride.

still. it's a f***ing SEMI-FINAL QUALIFYING HEAT. does he really need to raise his finger in victory? kiprop is a moron.

wuh? guh? buh?
1st no taunting at all by the kenyan, and no excessive celebrating either.
2nd. its so clear that sully was getting elbowed that I cant see how anyone misses that.
yea seriously, that was the "taunting"? that kiprop was doing? If so...weakest taunt ever. much to do about nothing.
come on, guys. the kid is 17! keep that in perspective.
Word with flocast camp is that he actually did say something to Webb as he looked at him before the finish. Might not have been in english.
Right now in the US, anyone doing anything even remotely negative towards Webb will be labelled a taunter.
People need to get a life.
its cause the guy in 7th was pulling and tugging and cutting him off all race. as Kevin said it himself...
"More than that though. When he came up with 200m to go, he grabbed my jersey to get by. I got my momentum back and came up beside him around 120-100m to go where he grabbed my arm as I tried to get by. Then in the homestretch, he ran me out, but when I started to go by again, he actually got his arm across my chest to try and hold me back one more time.
Someone afterwards joked that I should have pulled his jersey over his head at the finish and gone "hockey style" on him ;-)" -krs1 on tnfnorth.com
No, the point is that it doesn't matter if you get 1st, 2nd, or 6th in your qualifying heat. Putting a #1 up in the air like that just makes you look ignorant in front of more experienced competitors. It's fine to celebrate the fact that you qualified, but don't stare down your "competition" who has shut it down and put up a "I'm number one!" El G won plenty of heats and saved his celebrating for when it mattered, his ego wasn't so fragile he had to think he was a badass for beating guys who didn't give a shit where they placed as long as they were top 6 in the heats. Guys like Webb and Lagat were just out there to move on. We'll see where Kiprop is when it counts.
People like you were defending Stember before he got his ass smoked in the finals back in 2004.
Who knows their real age. Probably 17 going on 27.

I don't give a f#ck about Stember and honestly wouldn't remember specific message board posts from three years ago, anyway. Having a life is tough that way.
apparently having a memory is tough that way too.
it isn't the worst thing in the world, but the point is the guy is not a favorite, has not really made a name for himself, and just looks kind of stupid throwing up a sign or staring someone down in the opening heat (where people run to qualify, not to win) with guys who have run 5-6 seconds faster than him in the meet.
people need to stop coming on the message boards and insulting people for talking about what goes on in a race. that's the point of the message board.
