Do NCAA D1 athletes get free shoes?
we do
Yep. The quality of the shoes varies, but we got a pair per season (XC/Indoor/Outdoor) plus spikes (as many as we wanted).
nike just upped our deal so we get 9 pairs of trainers a year, 2 flats and one or two spikes
pretty sweet
what schools are these?
the BCS schools do. the bigger question would be what D1 schools don't get free shoes?
We get pretty much any gear we need.
If I remember correctly, we got free trainers for cross and track. Our spikes and racers were supposedly school issued but no one but the one to who the shoes were issued ever wore the said shoes anyway.
I went to a D1 school in East Alabama (a BCS School) and got about 5 pairs of shoes and 3 pairs of spikes my entire time there.
You name it, I've got more of it than I know what to do with...

Is that even english? Yikes! I never knew the quality of education was that much worse in NAIA....
You're right. It should have said "to whom the shoes were issued..."
SUU makes you pay for everything - everything - uniforms, Windbreakers, sweats, tee-shirts, shoes. etc - AND we are required to wear 'official' tee-shirts or workout sweats to do the workouts. Plus all shoes for competition must be Adidas. It adds up.
I run for a Big 12 school and we get 10 pairs of shoes.
6 trainers
2 flats
1 xc spike
1 track spike

I thought it was more spikes than that. But what the hell do I know. Hey, we're doing better than BCS and Big-12 schools, so that's all that matters.
Hopefully none of our clothes come in OK State colors again this year though... hahaha

Went to a BCS school on a Nike sponsored team (started as a walkon, later on some scholarship) and we typically got 1 pair of trainers and 1 pair of spikes per year. Definitely not complaining, but the equipment bonanza that some people would've expected us to get was only a reality for a few athletes.
We get two pairs of training shoes and one pair of flats or spikes, Asics.

Seems like it should be the other way around, since you need way more trainers than you do racing shoes.
Anyway...one pair of trainers per season, one pair of spikes.
Anyone else think it's wacked that they would quibble about a few pairs of shoes when you consider what it costs to outfit a football player? Even just shoes, I believe they need several types of shoes for grass, turf, trainers, etc...
Enjoy it while it lasts.

We get trainers about 3-4 times per year, one pair of XC and one pair of track flats/spikes.
