I am looking at the results of the World University Games, and I don't see any results from American athletes? Didn't the USA send a team?

They usually don't run it. Doesnt come at a good time as most coaches have their athletes getting ready for Cross Country. Also very expensive to get there and athletes have to pay for it themselves.
I would of payed my own way if it was an option. USATF always makes these decisions as if they know what is best.

Well alot of athletes dont have that luxery. Like the above poster said, its at a bad time in terms of most people's training for cross country.
It seems American Track has ALWAYS boycotted the World University Games. Way back in my day we would have teams in Europe running in dinky meets right close to where the games were being raced and NEVER did any of our runners get to go. I think USAF&T (AAU) has a problem with that meet. Maybe a $$$ for me kinna problem.
Are you ignorant or just stupid. There are more events to compete in in T&F than cross country. Your other events LJ. TJ hurdles, wt throws, sprints... you know, the real track and field events, don't need to get ready for cross country... but I don't expect you to know that. You only know cross country. How boring your life must be.
we sent a team to china 6 or 7 years ago. fam was on the team, maybe broe as well. usatf just doesnt care.
It's a simple equation. Once the USOC stopped funding track and field for the WUG's, USATF had to decide whether it was a good use of limited funds.
I suppose USATF could cut off all support for distance running, which produces virtually no medals in international competition, and send a team to WUG's.

...just like at every other level of american government.

USATF is not a governmental agency.

As I recall the 2001 Beijing games were the last one that the USOC funded a T&F team for. Since it's a USA team it's entered under the auspices of the USOC although the national governing body selects the team, there is no funding from the USOC for any of the participating sports for this WUG.
Americans in 1999 and 2001 included Michael Stember, Jonathon Riley, Matt Lane, Steve Slattery, FAM (1st in 2001 woth 8.21), Brian Sell, Lauren Fleshman, Janelle Deatheridge, Reese Hoffa, Jerome Young.
I was told it was because it was too "dangerous" for americans to be sent all over the world. Saftey issues concerning american athletes. If you know anyone from the USA cross team last year in Kenya you could get an idea of what i mean. Post 9/11 stuff basically
The US hosted the World University Games in (1989?) at the University of Buffalo, so we certainly haven't "ALWAYS" boycotted the games..

I wouldn't say the US is boycotting the WUG, nor would I say tracksters are left home as a safety precaution. The US still sends athletes to the WUG, just not in track. It seems most likely that it is a financial decision.
I think that it's because Mayeroff is in Bangkok, and they thought that the female runners would be molested by that guy. So they said, "well, if we have to leave the girls home, we have to leave the guys home too." There you go.

Then why wouldn't they allow usto pay our own way?
