I was watching Outside the Lines Report today on ESPN and they had a segment on the best sports call, whether it was Al Michaels' "do you believe in miracles?!" or Jack Buck "i don't belive...what i just saw!" and of course to "the band is on the field!!". This was brought up due to what would soon come next (as it happened tonight) with the call on Barry Bonds' 756th* home run. I personally thing the best call has to be Al Michaels in the 80 Olympics. I have chills everytime I hear it.
It got me to thinking. What is the best call in Track and Field? I know it's very un-orthodox as track and field don't have many events that happen in a couple seconds like a home run, a game winning shot or what have you. But there have been some great ones.
Personally, nothing holds a candle stick to the '64 call..in Tokyo. "LOOK AT MILLS!!" Followed by the loud, high-pitched scream, that we all remember. It just showed so much EXCITEMENT and PASSION in a sport that sometimes can lack it (moreso to non track/field watchers). But that call...it just gives me chills everytime I watch it, and puts a big grin on my face. Unbelievable.
