Right now I am one of the many on this board (apparently) who is on the bench due to Achilles' issues. Thinking forward to the next year, as an 800/1500 guy (up to now) with a decent 400, it occured to me:
1) I never seem to hear of top sprinters with Achiles problems. Hammies, quads, even knees, but never achilles.
2) before my forced layoff, I noticed that while doing striders at 400 speed or better, my Achilles didn't seem to hurt, while 800 and slower pace set it off.
As a "comeback" strategy for next year, I'm considering approaching it as a 100-400 guy (open-not in school). It might be a fun diversion from all the years of stress on my joints/tendons, and maybe it could allow me to gain a bit of speed for an eventual return to the 800. Anybody have input/experience on this?
