Are the guys in The Flaming Lips Conservatives?

If they are..that changes everything....everything will be out of tune.

I like their music, but I was having this same discussion with someone else recently.

I don't think they are Conservative, I have read a few interviews with Coyne and he appears pretty Liberal.

I will say that they should have taken a few steps back politically with the Mystics album - especially after releasing Yoshimi. Yoshimi was obviously inspired by 9/11, and Coyne even admits that in interviews. So they talk about fighting back and destroying evil, but then they act like it was a horrible idea in the next release.

I don't really care, I think they are great - but it goes to show that sometimes rockers should stick to rock and roll.

my guess is, a little of both. they are probably smart enough to realize that there are benefits and downfalls to both viewpoints. In response to his At War With the Mystics lyrics, my guess is that he agrees that Bush has had a very rocky, if not incompetant, administration. But Coyne is able to sympathize with the fact that it can't be easy to have all the power in the world dropped in your lap.

When you see them perform its pretty obvious that Wayne Coyne is a bleeding liberal. While their concerts are great at times you want him to get off his rambling pedestal.

I think with mystics coyne is looking at the human side of everything. What would an ordinary man do with tons of power? Kinda like frodo and that ring thing.

Coyne is a great lyricist and gets humans and the importance to serve one another. Soft Bulletin is one of my favorite albums ever.
