To be an international to world-class miler, what is the minimum 800 time required? Lets say, how quick over 800 would you have to be to run a. 3.38 b. 3.33 for 1500m??
I say a. 1.50 b. 1.47

At least 1:48.77. You have to think in terms of a 55 second quarter mile pace or better. 1:48 or less would assure speed and stamina to get you through three grulling laps before you need to have enough left for a mighty sprint. 1:50 would not leave you fresh enough for the finish.
I disagree. 1.50. would be adequate provided the athlete was aerobically spot on and raced appropriately. 3.38 is 58.1 pace. The athlete would however be restricted to 1.55 at 800 and then rely other competitors coming back to him. Perhaps it is fair to say that a 1.50 runner could certainly run 3.38 but would struggle to place highly in any international field?
Yeah, I actually know a 339 guy who has never broken 150 for 800 and he has attempted the event quite fairly(1:50.33pb) However, he has good strength(7:54 indoor 3k so that helps him through it. He'll prolly evetally move up to 5k because of his lack of speed-he is toppin out at 1500. For 33 I would say 1:47 is the minimum, there must be atleast an 8 second cushion no matter how fit the athlete.
