The only Mens distance ARs that have not been broken since 2001 are the 3k/5k (both set by Bob Kennedy in 1996) and the 800 (set by Johnny Gray about 100 years ago).
For all three, give me a name, time (when) for when these records go.

lagat will break the 5K record after worlds.
webb will prob break the 3K record.
no one in the current crop of americans will break johnny's record anytime soon.
Clearly, with a good group of pace-setters through 600m Webb would have a legitimate shot of running .85 faster and thus break Gray's record.
I also think that Webb could break the 5k record in a year or two, no matter how much Lagat lowers it if in fact he does. With two more solid years of building aerobic strength Webb will be ready to go well under 13:00, maybe under 12:50 for 5k.
Web and Teg could both get the 3K record before the Olympics next year. Teg, Webb, and Lagat could all break the 5K as well by next year if things go well.
Webb is a long longshot at best to ever get the 800 record, and no one else from the current crop has much chance either. Webb would be my pick if I had to pick someone.
*Webb*
There was a time I would tell you that to expect a guy to get .85 seconds faster in the 800 between one race and the next is stupid and that its almost impossible to come down that much.
Then Webb ran a 2 second pr today, so that theroy is blown to shit now.
I don't think anybody can get the 800 record though. I do think Lagat, Webb, Teg, and maybe even Solinsky in the next few years can get at the very worst closer to BK's record.
Lagat I think is the closest to breaking it. I could see him and Teg both going under 12:58 in the same race.
