On today's run I was going a "normal" easy pace but it didn't feel quite as easy as it normally does. I did mile repeats yesterday so I was obviously fatigued and this explained the pace not feeling as easy as normal. So just because I do this every so often I checked my stride rate and noticed was running about 4 strides per min. less then normal but still going the same pace. Anyway this got me thinking about Daniels research on stride rate and how it doesn't really change that much but it's stride length that changes for a quicker pace. And that when runners get fatigued they generally lengthen thier stride and slow the rate. To this I concluded that when checking stride rate, if you notice your putting in the same effort you normally do and going the same pace you normally would, but turning over slower, your probably trying to go faster then you should. Does this sound like a good test of general fatigue to help determine proper easy pace? I hope that all made nice.
