who gives a rats ass?
you should, son. Now go on out and play!
So, what is your point? There is no justification for that here and now.
Also, there are no racial differences in the high jump, historically, as I can readily think of many great high jumping grey dudes.
In terms of sheer, long-term domination, Edwards cannot hold a candle to Carl Lewis' 10+ year domination of the long jump
Seems pretty obvious just from genetics. You?re talking about a race of people who up until just a few hundred years ago were running through the moors chasing wild boars with primitive weapons. Over an evolutionary period, this is going to result in a species of human well disposed to a jumping event. Even if they can?t trace it to a specific gene, we all know that people like that are just going to better adapted to this type of activity than the rest of us. Just look at the obvious differences in musculature.
The Northern European, and specifically the Anglo, exhibits these characteristics not just physiologically, but throughout his social structure. The propensity of this race to quickly skip steps and jump to conclusions is well known. But the Anglo work ethic has always demonstrated it well: when told by the boss to jump, the mindset of the Anglo employee has always been to say ?How high?? or ?Yessir, boss, I?ll hop right to it.?
This guy was great. And his face wasn't broken out due to drug use like King Carl's.
Jonathan Edwards is a fine athlete but triple hardly qualifies in terms of competition compared to the other jumping events.
So I guess he is "3" times as good?
jonanthan is not white, he has 1/10 black.
that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. 10%? HA!
You can only be 100 or 50% of anything.
His Mom and Dad were either black or white or mixed. So that would be 100 or 50
Umm..not that it matters, but you can also be 25% of something or 12 1/2% of something.
If it really excites you that ONE white guy from the country we fought to gain our independence is at the top of the ranks of a very technical, rather contrived, and somewhat obscure event, then you have problems.
I thought you were going to say Sergey Bubka.

Actually, he should have. Bubka dominated like no one ever before or since.
Is Edwards even the greatest TJer of all time? He's been world ranked #1 7 times, plus 2, 3, and 6 once each. And has one Oly gold. Saneyev was #1 9 times, all in a row, and 2, 3, 4, and 5 in other years. and he won Oly gold 3 times (plus a silver).
Be careful about describing this as an obsure, contrived event - considering how much steeplechase discussion goes on here.

Tell me that PAWPAW is joking...
I vote for the Russian high-jumper, Valery Brumel. He had some great duels with the African-American, John Thomas back during the Cold War.
Note: my memory of this, like all memories, can be erroneous; so if you think you are informed, add or subtract.
Write Edwards off?!?!
Are you kidding me? I think he's one of the all time greatest in T&F; one of my personal favorites. I was just pointing out that an indisputable case can be made that he's the greatest TJer of all time, let alone the greatest jumper. Although personally, I'd give him the edge over Saneyev just on the amount by which he's made his WRs untouchable.
Pat Matzdorf 1971 World record holder 7-06.25 doing the western roll!!! Best non flop jump ever, i believe
While Pat Matzdorf was a great jumper, he was not the best non-flopper. People seem to forget the jaw-dropping Vladimir Yashchenko, with his stunning form and world record 2.34m jump (7-8+) in 1978 because his career was so short due to alcohol issues and numerous stress fractures from the intense training at an young age and whatever performance-enhancing stuff the Soviet program was giving him. To watch footage of a guy dive straddle 7-8 is amazing. Brumel was TF&N #1 high jumper of the 20th century, and rightfully deserved that title I think.
But this thread was about triple jump. Saneyev gets my vote. His credentials:

TF&N Athlete of the Decade (1970's)
World Record Holder 1968-1971, 1972-1976
the interesting part is that Saneyev lives in Australia and coaches at a local high school . . . keeps a low-profile
