how many miles do you typically get out of your shoes?

Disclosure - I was never a good runner.

I did, however, average 2,850 miles per year between ages 30 and 48 without a single injury. I think one of the keys during this period was that I was religious about keeping track of my miles with each pair of shoes, and retired them all at between 400 and 425 miles. For whatever reason, that seemed to work for me.

over 700, I think being light helps, not so much bf% as being actually light.(130lbs and under)

mileage on shoes is usually more indicative of where the mileage is run, how hard you are on your shoes, and also footstrike

the type of shoes will also effect mileage (lightweight trainers/ racer-trainers will get less mileage than solid trainers

as for cost effectiveness - most runners of 100 mpw or more will have more than one pair (usually 2-4 pair) to cycle through, so that you're not really beating one pair down run after run

also, if you're running 100+ mpw you're possibly a better runner (or you wouldn't be putting in the mileage to begin with) you usually have some sort of sponsorship or you work at a running store :-)

I had one month where I went through 4 pairs of training shoes. I planned ahead of time, got the sponsor to send them and then proceeded to trash them over 800 miles :-)

ive been running with some same shoes since january and haven't had any trouble until the last few days. my feet are a bit sore so im gonna get a new pair but yeah... im guessing i put in 1200 miles or so on them.

You ran 200 mpw? If so, who are you and how the heck do you have time to waste on here?

Or was it 800 miles per pair and they happened to all wear out in the same month?

Answer: By training in flats (~Puma H Streets/Cortlandt XC flats). I average 1000-1500 miles/pair..... could only get 400-500 miles/pair in trainers. You learn to land lighter in flats, develop better and more efficient body/foot mechanics, and consequently don't beat up the shoes as quickly. My mechanics in flats were horrible at first (~only 200-300 miles out of my first pair of Puma H Streets... and they were shot). By the second and third pairs, I could progressively get more miles per pair. The switch has been well worth it, financially, now that I'm running lots of miles.

I buy my flats online and/or at an outlet store. I will get 4000-5000 miles this year out of 4 pairs of shoes, which at an average cost of $50, comes out to $200 for the year.

I usually get to about 400 miles before my shoes start to feel flat. At about 500~ they feel pretty shot.

Lately Ive been running in Nike Vomeros which seem the have a lot shorter life expectancy. Anyone else having this problem with the Vomero?

I rotate between a pair of Puma H Streets and Cortlandt XC flats. I'll get about 6-8 months out of these two pair before buying 2 new pairs (one of each). I'm not sure what I'll do when I need shoes again cause both pairs are getting harder to find!

I train and race in the same shoes. I like the H Streets for shorter races (<15k) and the Cortlandts for longer races (half marathon and up). I always wear the Cortlandts for long runs. It really doesn't matter how many miles are on a pair going into a big race. Neither pair requires much break-in time (I wore the Cortlandts only 3 times going into a 10 miler back in April).

I don't really start to notice any significant 'breakdown' on the shoes or how my body feels until ~1200 miles, which is pretty much the point when I decide to get a new pair..... this has been a consistent trend for quite a while (maybe 2 years?). I think I had a previous pair of H Streets that had close to 1500 miles.... I sometimes threw them into rotation for something different.

I should add that I wore the Cortlandts in my first marathon back in April. Everyone couldn't believe that's what I raced in! My legs/feet actually didn't feel all that bad, and I seemed to recover quickly too. I contribute it to training/racing in the same shoes-- whereas it may be a 'shock' for most to race in less shoe, it's what I train in every day.

I kept my last pair of shoes for 12 months but I don't run high mileage. I probably wouldn't keep a pair that long again - it was amazing how the new pair felt when I got them!
