Who is Sydney Maree????
He\'s top 25 now, but at this level, there isn\'t much separating him from the VERY top of that list. Just think, if he takes 2 seconds off his time, he\'s top 5 All-Time. I realize shaving that much off is no small feat, but I wouldn\'t put it past him at this point.
That's awesome. Ryan Hall running one of the top-10 half-marathons of all time was huge earlier this year, but this is probably bigger, considering how much more often the 1500 is run.
Also, a lot of those times faster than Webb's 3:30.55 were run in the El G era, when guys could actually get pulled along to very fast times. That Webb won the race today makes this even better. Congratulations to Webb!
.
I count that as 24, maybe that's just me.
Is that from the all-time site?

That's a TOUGH 2 seconds, though.

a thousand one, a thousand two...
he just took 2 seconds off his 1500m pr today. but realistically, after this performance, he can get the american record this year. beat a tough field and baala was in good shape. there are about 6 guys currently in good form ahead of him on the list and lagat is probably good for a 3:30 at some point this year (he ran 3:50 mile at pre). but kipchirchir, chirchir, and heshko are barely ahead of him on the list. this was tremendous. you have to think that he is a gold medal candidate after this performance.
After today's race, Webb clearly has the ability, in a quicker rabbited race (1:50-51 through 800) later in the season (perhaps in the next couple years), to hit 3:27-8 for 1500m and 3:45-6 for the mile.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.
obviously he's done nothing to predict those times. however, .8 seconds is not a stretch with dkk or ramzi in the race, however.
Alan Webb is now the fastest native born American in the 1500 meters.

This is insignificant. You are the fastest American or you are not. We should stop this native-born mentality, it puts an artificial limit on people's accomplishments. I'm sure that Alan does not think like this....
Fastest native-born American has the same significance as fastest American citizen really.
Webb is the fastest American 1500m runner not born and raised in Africa.
I guess he could emigrate to Canada if he wanted to get an official National Record.

To a lot of people, this is not insignificant. For someone like Webb, he probably doesn't view it that way now , but later in life, after his career, I'd bet that he would wouldn't mind if "American-born" was added when describing his accomplishments. Especially if he sets any records that are broken by "non-American born" runners.

no, it's insignificant because Alan Webb is the 24th fastest ever (Rotich is listed twice).
