If anything, I would think, the 'phony' Gerry Lindgren duped Joffroi.

I am not so sure. I know a few of these people pretty well and I read some of the quickies and the information there is very true. Some of the specifics mentioned in some of the interviews (quickies) is very detailed and could not possibly be made up by someone who didn't know the athlete personally and in some cases college.

They could be taken from another site, but that is different all together than "fake"

I will admit the Gerry article is absurd but I have heard he is an absurd guy and have met him. Seems like stuff he would say.

He has good connections in the running world that he has developed over the last 6 years or so.

I have worked with mental patients, so I recognize someone when I see them. The forced speech and those almost spastic arm movements are typical for someone on heavy medication.

There is something very wrong with that very, very poor man. And anyone other than a mental health professional who even gives him the time of day anymore.

You guys are being too literal. Back then, time was different - 2 hours in the 60s and 70s was more like 2:45 in today's time. In that context, what Gerry is saying makes perfect sense.

Wrong! It has more to do with differnt measurements back in the day. Most of the marathons in the 60's and 70's were more like 24.218 miles. I believe that he was at sub 2 hour pace for a 1960's marathon. This also applies to his 16:08 4 miler. The 2007 equivalent to a 1960's 4 miler is about 3.77 today miles.
