my build-up is scheduled:
week 1-45 miles Long run of 10 miles
week 2-49 miles Long run of 10 miles
week 3-54 miles + strides 2 days/week Long run of 11 miles
week 4-50 miles " " " Long run of 11 miles
week 5-54 miles + drills with the strides, LR of 12 miles
week 6-58 miles " " ", LR of 12 miles
week 7-60 miles Add fartlek w/ others above, LR of 12 miles
week 8-56 miles " " " LR of 12 miles
week 9-60 miles Add tempo run 4 miles LR of 13 miles
week 10-63 miles Tempo run (Tuesdays)+ hill repeats(Sat)
week 11-64 miles Tempo run + 6 x 150@ Mile pace+hill repeats
week 12-65 miles Tempo run (Tuesday)+ (Sat)+hill repeats
Week 13-65 miles Tempo run (Tuesday) + 6 x 1000@5k pace
*My long run will top out at 13 miles but pace should pick up gradually over the xc season.
It seems pretty gradual and thoughtful. I hope I can handle the extra work withhout injury. My HS coach was always afraid to add too much mileage for fears of a stress fracture. i've never been injured so maybe he was right.
