The Africans will chew him up and spit him out when it counts. Then we will see what his big mouth has to say. I bt he will be just as pissed as he was after that race when they interviewed him on flocast after he got beat by Webb.

Yep. Let's see what he's got when it counts. Just like at the last World Champs.
Oh wait...

Well he has already medaled, so the monkey is off his back. Maybe now he'll just work his way up to silver or gold.
Shut up, Buster's fkn awesome. He'll do better at Worlds than you ever will.
White runners are genetically inferior athletes at every distance. This has been scientifically proven by the best scienticians in the world.
Mottram probably has lots of Black genes in him, hence his ability to run fast.
Craig Mottram will medal at the World Championships. The question is whether it will be Gold. At this moment, I am betting on Mottram for Gold in the 5000M.

This last sentence is probably true for every poster on Letsrun.com and almost every reader.
That said, critiques (or opinions) of Mottram do not need to come solely from those who can beat him.
C'mon, use the same logic. This board would be boring if no one here was allowed to bash Webb all day long.

True, and applying the same concept, Jeremy Wariner has more black genes than most black people.

In reality is Wariner just so black, that he's white?

Probably, but lets not generalise here, Wariner trains awful hard too.

Their only hope to beat Mottram is to make the pace killer fast, like 12:49, but this requires extremely fast and talented guys sacrificing themselves. I'm guessing the race will be another 13:05 type race with a wild kick. In that event, only an in-form K. Bekele can beat him.
13.05??? In Osaka? no chance. It will be slower than that due to the extremely oppressive weather conditions.
And Mottram has never been outkicked by any other African except K.Bekele??? Comonwealth games / Geb in London etc etc
I dont think either tactic gives him a distinct advantage - there will be guys in that race that can outrun or outkick him.
Lets not forget that there are several African runners who can run a sub 13 on any given day and only one Mottram.
I thnk at his current level he is mixing with the top tier of Africans but not dominating them and he should probably be in the top 5. If things go his way a medal would be great but a gold would be very unlikely.
Mottram has shown over the past two years that he's tough to beat off of a medium fast pace. If the winning time is in the 13:00-13:15 range, he can kick in 52-53 seconds, which is as good or better than anyone else in the field. Dropping below sub 13:00 begins to neutralize his kick as you get closer to his pr, but there are not many runners in the race who can set a sub 13:00 pace and still have something left over the last kilometer. To get a sub 13:00 pace, you would definately need to see 2 or 3 Kenyans or 2 or 3 Ethiopians work together, which may well occur, but keep in mind, there has only been one world championship / olympic final where the winning time was significantly below 13:00 (2003 world champs, when it was 12:52 and you had Bekele in that race setting a very fast pace). I would think the odds of a sub 12:55 winning time are very very slim. Mottram will be right up there contending for a medal.

I think it's said over and over again. Mottram is a good runner but He has a big mouth. It's great to have big mouth. It's just a character difference thats all. Even the best Ethiopian runners you don't hear them at all. They don't talk a lot of shit. they are humble and don't see themselves any different than another person who doesn't run. But you see in America we like to talk shit whether we win or lose and eat pizza and talk more shit. Mottram is more like americans than australians when it comes to mouth. He certainly didn't inherit his mouth from australia. Bottom line he has a chance to medal if winning time is 13:02-13:05. If it's quicker he might get bronze. It depends on how many kenyans and ethiopians will be there. Remember there are a handful of Ethios and Kenyans who are able to go under 12:55 on any given day. IF K. Bekele and Shehine are there that's gold and silver for you.
Yea, He needs to close it up! The ball thing was great, saying Bekele is no good is another!
Perhaps if the Kenyans/Ethiopians weren't so humble then distance running wouldn't be in such a bad state. Love him or hate him, it desperately needs big personalities like Craig Mottram.

for what? you think people are going to watch 14+ minutes of running just b/c some dumbass Aussie runs his mouth?
if you do--you're retarded.
I'm paying more attention to track right now. I love seeing a brash, cocky white dude plainly state that he wants to end the dominance of the africans in distance running, and he has the talent & fitness to do it.
As much as all you Mottram haters dog on him for his brash, cocky behavior, you KNOW you want to be him right now. As much as you softies may hate to admit it (because you softies worry about "coming off cocky" or "disrespecting the competition" and other p***** stuff like that) he is what we ALL want to be at some point in time during our running careeres; fit as hell, on a roll, & not scared of anyone cause we know how good we're running. It's him against the (African) world right now, and he believes in himself, and he ain't gonna take any s*** fron the haters...wouldn't you love be going through what he is right now?
If I were running as well as Mottrom is, I'd be just as cocky and brash as he is. Cause the "aw shuks" attitude ain't gonna win in Osaka, the "I'm gonna run your ass off the track" attitude will.
And I wouldn't give a flying f*** what any of you haters would say because i could run your ass into the ground without even trying.
GO MOTTRAM! F the haters & FTW!
The general public could care less about distance running, and it's obvious by it's lack of coverage and the fact that any regular person couldn't even tell you how many miles a 5k even is. The fact of the matter is, when Kenyan's win, no one cares unless it's a world record, it's impossible to distinguish the majority of them anyway with how many Kiplagats, Lagats, Fekeles, and Bekeles there are. If you want regular people to get excited about distance running. Throw them a 6'3 Big Mazungo from Aussie who talks a mean game, and 'smashes' the best of the best.
