Everyone (including the LR front page) was making a big deal about how Sanya, by finishing fourth, didn't qualify for Worlds. But--and ignoring that she later qualified in the 200--wouldn't she have been put on the 4x400 relay anyway?
Yeah, I'm aware that she didn't qualify for the *individual* 400, and that that was a big surprise, etc.--but why were people all saying that she "wasn't going to Worlds"? Has the selection process for the 4x400 squad changed?

WRONG. She is in the relay pool for the 4 x 400M, and is assured a spot on the relay due to her 4th place finish in the Open 400M. Trust me, she will anchor the 4 x 400M in Osaka.

While you are right she is in the pool, finishing 4th does not GUARANTEE she will run. That is totally up to the coaches. IF her illness, and her fitness, does not improve, and if Allyson Felix goes out and runs a 49 somewhere between now and Osaka, all bets are off.
However, given that up to six people can run on a relay (trials and final)...

Seguru, the individual team is 4 members not 3. Why do you refuse to accept this? The relay teams are comprised of 6 members.

A place in the top 3 in the 400 at USATF qualifies individuals for Worlds in that event, and I assume automatically qualifies those individuals for the 4x400 relay pool. But deciding who actually runs the relay is a coaching decision, I'm pretty sure. If Allyson Felix does indeed run a "49-somewhere", I don't believe there's anything to stop the coaches from using Allyson and Sanya in the relay and bump one of the top 3 from USATF.

Actually, you are the aptly named idiot. Lister said Sanya Richards would go to worlds as an "alternate," which is incorrect since she finished in the top four. As others have pointed out, there's no guarantee she will run in the relay, but she's not an alternate.
